Mr. Carl Salisbury arrived in Zanzibar in May 1991 flying from Chicago in a Piper Seneca. He started Zanair in November the next year adding a plane to the one he flew in on. Today Zanair operates 6 planes and is the most prestigous airline on the Island. In May 2004 Mr. Salisbury was appointed British Honorary Consul to Zanibar. ZanTours began operations in1997 to fill a demand for a reliable Tour Operator in a rapidly growing tourist industry. Today, our dedicated commitment to our clients’ peace of mind has made ZanTours the largest and most exclusive tour operator on the island of Zanzibar. Our long experience in East Africa, and the fact that head office is on Zanzibar, means that we can quickly sort out any problems that may occur. At its conception ZanTours was commissioned to transfer large numbers of European guests to beach resorts. Since then ZanTours has developed in to a highly flexible and unique tour operator specializing in planning individual and unusual itineraries. Our guests come from all corners of the globe and we are here to make certain that their holidays run smoothly and are hassle free.The company invested substantially by purchasing 6 buses and after the success of the first season and then decided to purchase more vehicles to cope with growing demand. To date we have 2 x 4 seater all wheel drive vehicles, 5 x 6 seater Hiace Minivans, 7 x 9 seater Long wheel base Minivans, 4 x 21 seater Rosas and 3 x 29 seater Luxury Buses which totals a combine capacity of 272 people.

We currently employ a workforce of 49 staff members which includes our administraion and booking team, mechanics, vehicle attendants, professional tour guides, management and senior management.

ZanTours office welcomes enquiries and walk-in clients Monday-to-Saturday from 8.00am to 5.00pm and on a Sunday from 9.00am to 12 noon during peak seasons. We are located near the port in Stone Town, just a few minutes drive from the most popular hotels. Our office is also home to ZanAir, our sister airline company. ZanAir will gladly handle enquiries, bookings, and the re-confirmations and collection of ZanAir tickets. Zantours clients benefit enormously from these close ties with ZanAir, because we can offer greater flexibility, prompt and efficient service and better value for money in East Africa.
